And then some
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter — bitter,” he answered;
“But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart.”
-- Stephen Crane

WHY CAN’T CARS AND MOTORCYCLES AND NORTH AMERICA RUN ON LOVE AND HAPPINESS?

I cry a little every time I have to fill up my gas tank. Every single time.

In other news, I found fruit! My adventure was a total success. I got a ridiculous amount of peaches and mangoes and apricots and strawberries. It was excellent and I feel really cool and successful. Also very full.

Tomorrow I think I’m going to try making peanut butter. From actual peanuts. It can’t be that hard, right? I mean don’t you just put peanuts and salt in a blender or something? Eh, Google will teach me.

David McCullough Jr.’s commencement speech to the Wellesley High School graduating class of 2012.

Nicknamed the “you are not special” speech.

I love the message here.

”Resist the easy comforts of complacency, the specious glitter of materialism, the narcotic paralysis of self-satisfaction.  Be worthy of your advantages.”

reminder: be aware that although citrus fruit is very acidic, you should wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth in order to protect your enamel. the reason for waiting is to allow time for your saliva to neutralize the pH in your mouth, which prevents enamel softening and decay when brushed later. read more about it here. also, do not consume the seeds of any citrus fruits.

“When I graduated from high school in 1938, I began going to the library three nights a week. I did this every week for almost ten years and finally, in 1947, around the time I got married, I figured I was done. So I graduated from the library when I was twenty-seven. I discovered that the library is the real school.” - Ray Bradbury, 1920 - 2012.
